The Past, the present and the future of lekki to the real estate market in Nigeria

The Lekki-Epe express way was constructed between 1979-1984 by the then governor of Lagos state "Chief Lateef Jakande". The construction of that road was the main catalyst to the present day development we have witnessed in lekki peninsula. Before and immediately after the construction of the road, Lekki was just a den of forest inhabited mostly by animals and trees which no body wanted to live in.

Since the construction of the road, Lekki has witnessed tremendous development with some of the most expensive estates in the country situated there like Lekki phase 1 and 2, VGC, Chevron estate etc.. Properties which where bought for some few hundreds of naira are being sold now for millions of naira and the investors who initially bought those lands are now smiling to the bank.
When the road was initially constructed, no body ever believed that the once lonely and thick swamp forest could one day become a city and be bobbling with abundant commercial, industrial and human activities. The Omoriles (indigence) were even begging investors to buy there land for pea nuts, but most people who were approached by these Omorile's (indigines) not having foresight refused to acquire land in Lekki thinking it will never develop.
Today, the story is different as Lekki is now bubbling with commercial and human activities with some of the most expensive estates in the country. The Lagos state government has also taken special interest in Lekki peninsula as it's number one priority in it's urban development, expansion and mega city programme with the upgrading and expansion of the Lekki-Epe express way, the ongoing construction of Lekki free trade zone, the ongoing constructions of Lagos sea port and also the proposed construction of Lagos sea port. Lekki has also joined the oil producing communities in Nigeria with the discovery of oil and the ongoing construction of an oil drilling site in Elekon, ibeju lekki LGA and also the federal government ongoing construction of the west African gas pipeline.
In the future Lekki peninsula will be the next commercial capital of Lagos state and also a city with the best social amenities and infrastructures in Lagos state. The evidence of what Lekki will be tomorrow is already being evidenced now. All that matters now is "will you be among those who will be smiling to the bank or will you be among those who will be paying the bills by way of high rentage fees or expensive property". Don't be left behind because the future starts today.
